ALENKA

Alenka has been working with cats for more than 20 years, she is the depository of an association rescuing cats in need and a 'housemate' to several street cats: Riško, Monty, the three-legged Trio, Aida, Mio, blind Bambi. Her home is diversified by other cats in the deposit. A part of her family is also a rabbit Shell, and a 10-year-old rescue dog Happy who has only recently joined her home.

MY SOTRY

"Like all children, I always liked animals. It didn't end with just admiration for me, I also ended up bringing them home and I wanted to help every little furry creature in need. My parents weren't very happy about it (obviously), but over time they resigned and instead tried to slow me down a bit. So sometimes we had every possible, and even impossible, kind of an animal at home. From baby frog, through a little hedgehogs and the wounded pigeon, to the cats and dogs, and finally they allowed me to have fish at home, then a hamster and a guinea pig. I've always said that when I grow up, I'll have a lot of animals.

Year later, my children were probably the only ones in the class who didn't have to beg at home to have a pet, we always had some. My girls grew up with a beautiful female of the Chow Chow race, and later we rescued a poor, very sick kitten from the street. Čičo, had a really strong cat personality and lived with us for 17 long years. When Čičo was a twelve-year-old, two more street kittens joined our family, Simba and Riško. At that time, I would at time rescue some animal from the street and placed it with a friend, but it was even more or less accidental.

It wasn't until my daughters ran away into the world and the house became empty that I began to help cats from the street more intensely and purposefully. I took abandoned kittens, adult cats or injured ones, who urgently needed help. They underwent quarantine with me, the necessary treatment, and then a new home was found. I also tried to neuter cats from the street that I fed outside. Believe me, kittens and adult cats do not have a happy life on the street. Luckily, some cats find their home quickly, others have to wait longer to find their family. I am currently the depository of a cat association and the number of my cat subtenants is around 10 or more. And there is a small problem with that, if I plan to travel somewhere. Putting so many cats in a pet hotel is unrealistic for several reasons. If you do not have a suitable victim in your family to take care of them, you are unlucky. Your last option are friends and willing acquaintances. But still? Will they come to your home twice a day?

All of us pet owners have experience such issue. Travel and moving the cats to a new place only if temporarily, can be  stressful to the maximum and unwanted health or mental results can occur. And so I gradually worked out the idea of offering a service - caring for cats in their home, at the home of their owners.

Unfortunately, I can't patent it, I'm not the first to think of this. Such services already operate abroad. My older daughter, who has two cats and lived abroad for a long time, also tried it out. Not only she, but especially the cats were extremely satisfied. Since the end of my maternity leave with my second daughter, I have worked in the banking sector and decided to go into completely different waters. I resigned (after 23 years !!!) and launched an offer of such services in Slovakia, Mňausitting - a cat-sitting service."
